Senior Buyer

We’re looking for a Senior Buyer for a medium-sized ingredients supplier. With a real international element, including sourcing from China and India, this is a role that’ll suit an experienced purchasing professional with exposure to international supply chains in the ingredients field – if you’ve had enough exposure in food to know your sucralose from your aspartame, even better.

Expect to travel a few times a year to meet strategic suppliers, as well as being involved in trade shows. As the company expands, you’ll be responsible for sourcing new suppliers, as well as ensuring contingencies are constantly in place, should the next game-changing world event be right around the corner.

You’ll be joining a close-knit team and be given some people management responsibility from day one, so it’s important that you share the collective mindset of wanting to achieve as a team – there’s no room for “me” mindsets here. That said, you’ll face tough negotiations in this role, so you’ll certainly need some bite to ensure you’re getting the best terms possible for the business.

We’ll need to see a few things from your background, as you’d expect:

• 5+ years in purchasing/buying
• Exposure to food ingredients or a closely related sector (such as animal nutrition)
• International purchasing experience – including visiting suppliers. Far East/Asia preferred but we appreciate that European ones are more common in certain markets
• North West based or looking to move up to the area
